A 75-year-old male school bus driver was cited for unsafe lane deviation following a two-vehicle collision on March 28 in the North Point Dr. roundabout.

According to the crash report, which the Metro Wire finally obtained on March 30, the school bus and a 2014 Toyota Camry were traveling east on North Point Dr. at 2:19 p.m.

Upon entering the roundabout, the bus “deviated from its lane of traffic” near the Division St. exit, colliding with the Camry, the report said.

Minor damage was sustained to the right front panel of the Camry and the left rear side of the bus, and neither vehicle was towed, the report said.

The Camry was driven by an 18-year-old man. Two male passengers, ages 17 and 18, were also in the vehicle.

The school bus, a 2017 Collins Equipment Co. bus traveling Route N0. 19, contained several four- and five-year-old children and one educational assistant, a 68-year-old woman.

There were no injuries reported.

A second bus was sent to the scene to transport students to their final destination, according to Sarah O’Donnell, communications director for the school district, and the students’ families were quickly contacted.

Sending a new bus is standard protocol, even following a minor collision, O’Donnell said.
