‘The SpongeBob Musical’ to transport locals to Bikini Bottom

The Central Wisconsin Area Community Theater (cwACT) is taking the Stevens Point area to a pineapple under the sea.

Broadway’s critically acclaimed “The SpongeBob Musical” will be performed by some of the area’s finest thespians at Sentry Theater beginning on Oct. 28.

The show is a musical adaptation of Nickelodeon’s long-running animated children’s sitcom, “SpongeBob Squarepants.” The plot centers around the discovery that a giant volcano (Mt. Humongous) threatens to destroy Bikini Bottom within a mere 48 hours. Spongebob, with help from his fellow heroes, Patrick Starfish, and Sandy Cheeks, sets out to prove that more than just a “simple sponge,” in an effort to save his beloved home.

For cwACT, this is the first show performed at Sentry Theater since 2019’s “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
Director Amy Schwaab makes her return for this production.

“The best thing about ‘The SpongeBob Musical’ is that it appeals to almost everyone,” said Schwaab.
“Diehard fans of the animated TV show, as well as people who wouldn’t watch a cartoon if their life depended on it, can all find common ground among the gentle denizens of this crazy undersea world.”

The original musical score includes content from pop icons the likes of David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Sarah
Bareilles, John Legend, Panic at the Disco!, and more, and offers several high-energy dance numbers.

“I feel like some of the actors really got pushed out of their comfort zone, but they embraced all the new things that they learned anyway,” said choreographer Morgan Lefeber. “I can’t wait to see it all come
together.”

Castmembers include Theo Meyer as SpongeBob SquarePants, Nick Nuber as Patrick Star, Amber Fait as Sandy Cheeks, Joel Goodness as Squidward Q. Tentacles, Tom Russell as Eugene Krabs, Tana De Lonay as Pearl Krabs, Mic Frommet as Sheldon Plankton, Sydney Possinger as Karen the Computer, Ronda Wadina as the Mayor of Bikini Bottom, Dave Hanlon as Perch Perkins, Alicia Skrenes as Mrs. Puff, Mark Radtke as Old Man Jenkins, Mateo Koch as Larry the Lobster, and J.R. Omernik as Patchy the Pirate.

Playing multiple roles, the talented ensemble includes Nicole Czerwinski, Monica Davisson, Becca
Gehrke, Lily Hanlon, Kylie Hengstenberg, Levi Henk, Sierra Lubahn, Abby Peters, Haley Schenk, Liesel
Sigourney, and Steven Witt.

The Spongebob Musical runs from Oct. 28-30, and Nov. 4-5 at Sentry Theater. Visit cwact.org to
