Historical Society to present “Love Stories of Stevens Point”

By Brandi Makuski

The Portage Co. Historical Society is celebrating love this month.

In partnership with local historian Jen Brilowski, the PCHS will offer a special presentation on the love stories throughout the history of Stevens Point.

The event will be held on Feb. 13 at The Rose House—itself once a hot spot for date night under its former moniker, The Hot Fish Shop.

Attendees will hear “heartwarming, and sometimes tragic or even deadly, stories about the love between Portage County residents and love for the city itself,” said John Harry, executive director for PCHS.

“It’s amazing how many trysts and affairs became newsworthy events,” he added.

Brilowski is a local resident who runs the popular Point of the Past page on social media and has offered tours of Forest Cemetery for the PCHS.

The event is free and open to the public thanks to a Community Foundation grant-funded “Talking Points Historical Education Programming Series.”

Valentine’s Day-themed cocktails and pizza will be available for purchase starting at 6 p.m. The presentation begins at 6:30.

The Rose House is located at 1140 Clark St. in Stevens Point.
