County holding spring electronic, small appliance recycling event

By Patrick Lynn

Portage County Solid Waste is hosting an electronic and small appliance recycling collection event at the Plover Transfer Facility, and participants need to register by April 10.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

According to Solid Waste Director Amanda Haffele, the event is made possible thanks to funding from electronics manufacturers, so participants will be charged only $10 for up to 25 items per vehicle.

To expedite traffic flow, attendees are asked to bring exact change or pre-written checks to PCSW or Portage County Solid Waste, as credit or debit cards will not be accepted.

This event is exclusive to Portage County residents and businesses of any size will be turned away. To minimize congestion and wait times, all participants must pre-register by midnight on April 10.

Registration can be completed online here or by calling (715) 343-6297.

Appointments are available every half-hour starting at 8:30 a.m. Participants must arrive on time, no more than 15 minutes prior or after their registered time, to keep wait times under 30 minutes, Haffele said.

To ensure high participation, only a limited number of weekday appointments leading up to the main event are available.

On the event day, follow signs to County Road R, which will guide traffic around the block to Black Oak Drive, Twin Towers Drive, and then west onto Moore Road. Traffic entering off Apache Drive will be redirected. Trash, bulbs, tires, or other items typically collected at the Transfer Facility will not be accepted, and the facility will be closed for those types of waste that day.
