‘Books from the Heart’ returns for 25th year of gifting books

Books from the Heart is returning to local elementary schools.

With more than two decades on the books—pun intended—the program operates with the sole purpose of providing a new book to every student in grades K-2.

The program operates in both public and parochial schools, and books are delivered directly to public and parochial students in time for Valentine’s Day.

And once again this year, the public is being asked to help with donations of new children’s books or cash.

“We believe that books have the power to bring joy, comfort, and hope to those who need it most,” said Sally Crane, a local reading teacher, and Books from the Heart coordinator. “With ‘Books from the Heart,’ we hope to make a positive impact on students’ love and enjoyment of reading by providing them with access to books that enrich their minds and spirits.”

This is the 25th year that the Stevens Point area educators have sponsored the effort, with the program originally providing books only to first graders, the program has evolved to also include other grade levels.

Donations will be taken through Feb. 10, and should be sent to Books from the Heart, c/o Sally Crane, Kennedy Elementary School, 616 West Second Street, Junction City, Wis., 54443.
