Armed robbery suspect on the lam

An armed robbery suspect is wanted by local law enforcement in multiple counties after he failed to make a Tuesday court appearance.

Charles Miller, 37 of Wisconsin Rapids, did not make his initial appearance in Portage Co. Circuit Court on Sept. 5. Miller was arrested on July 17 for his suspected role in an armed robbery at The 13th Floor Canteen, 1109 Park St. Police believe Miller worked with two others, one who was an employee of the bar, to steal $10,000 in cash from the business.

Miller, who has an extensive criminal history, has been charged with armed robbery, party to the crime, and two counts of possession of narcotics.

After being arrested by Stevens Point police and processed at the Portage Co. Jail, Miller was transported to Wood Co. on an active warrant there. A representative of the Wood Co. Jail said Miller was held briefly on a charge of resisting or obstructing an officer before being sentenced to time served.

On July 30, Miller was transferred by deputies to Walworth Co., where he had been sentenced to six months in jail for failure to pay child support. Miller was given Huber work privileges but did not return to jail on Aug. 6.

Portage Co. Court Commissioner Janet Roberts issued a bench warrant for Miller on Sept. 5, also ordering a $20,000 cash bond.

Portage Co. Chief Deputy Dan Kontos said if anyone has information on Miller’s whereabouts, they should contact their local law enforcement office immediately.

“Do not approach him,” Kontos said. “Call your local law enforcement, or call Portage Co. Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.”
