Susan (Sue) M. Heimlich, 70

Susan (Sue) M. Heimlich, 70, passed away unexpectedly on April 6, 2022, at Aspirus Hospital in Stevens Point surrounded by her loving family.

Sue was kind and loving to everyone she met and was known for her fun filled personality. She was a shining light and truly one of a kind. Even though Sue has passed, she will be with us always, encouraging us to spend time with family and friends, dance often, fish, make a few crafts, and live life to the fullest.

Sue was born on February 10, 1952 in Stevens Point to parents James O. and Dorothy Kunde Butler. She graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1970. While in school, Sue met many of her lifelong friends and they continued to get together over the years and enjoyed many laughs and good times.

Mark and Sue met at The Yacht Club in the early ‘70s; it became a place they would often hang out and have so much fun. Oh the stories they had to tell from that time of their lives! They married on September 7, 1974 and then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where Mark attended culinary school. They moved to northern Illinois and had three beautiful children, Gretchen, Jill and Matthew. In 1984, they moved to Amherst to be closer to family and raise their own before moving to Plover in 1999.

Sue waitressed for many years at the Hot Fish Shop in Stevens Point. She was employed at the Tomorrow River school district working with children with disabilities as well as at the Achievement Center with the birth to three program that assisted children and families. She also provided in home respite care for many, helping those with disabilities. Sue’s favorite employment came from being an in home daycare provider for not only her five beautiful grandchildren (Brayden, Max, Mya, Maizee and Kinzee) but many other children who still to this day call her Grandma Suzie. She always had fun craft projects and loved every minute she spent with the children she cared for.

Sue officially retired a few years ago and enjoyed time with family and friends. She was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader and would be in attendance of anything they were involved in. Hobbies include fishing, boating, reading, sewing, crafting, talking on the phone, and animal rescue. She loved all of the animals owned throughout her life.

Sue is survived by her husband Mark Heimlich; daughter: Gretchen Konkol, her husband Corey and their children Brayden and Max; daughter Jill Martin and her children Maizee and Kinzee; and son Matthew Heimlich and his daughter Mya; her sister and best friend Patricia Knutzen (Walter) and her brother James F. Butler (Donna). Sue was so proud of her entire family and was always the one to keep in touch or check in from time to time.

Preceded in death by James O. Butler (Father), Dorothy Kunde (Mother), Moss Butler (Brother).

Sue’s family is extremely grateful for the amazing care and support provided by the nursing staff at Aspirus Hospital in Stevens Point. The ICU nurses Kay, Bridget, and Sydney provided a level of compassion that helped the entire family through this very difficult time.

Friends and family may gather to share memories on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 3-7 p.m. at Shuda Plover Funeral Home, 2400 Plover Rd., Plover, Wis. 54467.
