POTD: A tricky intersection made worse by snow

Metro Wire Staff

Police and fire crews respond to a single-vehicle car-versus-light pole collision on Feb. 5.

Emergency crews from Stevens Point responded to the crash at Church and Nebel streets at 9:44 a.m. Wisconsin Public Service was also called to the scene.

Lt. Dana Williams from SPPD said roads are still slick across the area, and she advises motorists to use extra caution. According to ploverweather.com, 7.7 inches of snow fell on Thursday.

“Even though the city crews have been working really hard to clear the streets, they’re still somewhat slippery, and people should still take caution with their travels,” she said.

There were no injuries in the crash, she said.

Roadways in rural areas are even worse than inside the city, according to WisDOT. I-39 between U.S. 10 and WIS 29, and many areas along U.S. 10 are ice-covered and slick. The Town of Plover is reporting a lot of blowing and drifting snow, as well.

Williams said motorists should allow extra travel time.
