Police & Sheriff calls, Oct. 20-22

Oct. 20

Who knows: Police issued a warning to an 18-year-old female motorist at West Zinda Dr. and West Clark St. at 8:03 a.m. The nature of the warning was not included in the blotter.

Abandoned: Someone reported to police that a bicycle was left abandoned at the city water towed on Water St. at 8:11 a.m.

Medical: Police responded to assist on a medical call on the 1000 block of First St. at 8:13 a.m.

Driving complaint: Police issued a warning for an undisclosed violation involving a school bus near Leahy Ave. and Terrace Ln. at 8:28 a.m.

Crash: Police responded to a crash outside of the Portage Co. Library, 1001 Main St., at 9:09 a.m.

 

Chase: A 26-year-old man with an active warrant fled police on foot near the R Store, 5485 Hwy 10 East, at 9:48 a.m. It wasn’t clear in the blotter how long the pursuit lasted or if the man was apprehended.

Homeless camp: Police were called to the 300 block of Bliss Ave. when someone reported a homeless camp was set up near the city’s water department at 1:16 p.m. Police responded a second time at 1:41 p.m. when a water department employee reported a similar concern.

Interesting: A 41-year-old man flagged down a squad car to ask the office to check if he had any warrants. He did not.

Round-n-round: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the North Point Dr. roundabout at 3:02 p.m. when a 59-year-old female motorist crashed into a 17-year-old girl’s vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Hit & run: Police were called to a hit-and-run accident in the parking lot of the Porag Co. Health and Human Services, 817 Whiting Ave., at 2:58 p.m.

Trespasser: Police were called to Aspirus Stevens Point, 900 Illinois Ave., at 2:40 p.m., when hospital employees reported a man trespassing on the roof. The man “took off” when confronted. It wasn’t immediately clear if the man, 32, was apprehended.

SPASH Crash: Police were called to SPASH at 3:22 p.m. for a minor collision. No further details were included in the blotter.

Drunk: An employee at Econo Lodge, 5110 Main St., called police to have a known 47-year-old intoxicated man removed after he caused a disturbance.

Welfare check: Police were called to Perkins, 143 Division St. North, at 3:40, when an employee requested a welfare check on a 38-year-old man who seemed confused.

Threats: Police were called to the Franciscans, 1000 Main St., at 3:34 p.m. when a 28-year-old woman complained she was being harassed and threatened by a man, 30.

Fight: Police responded to Maria Dr. and Georgia St. at 5:15 p.m. when a caller reported a man and woman fighting. No further details were released.

Be nice: Police stopped at a home on the 1100 block of Franklin St. at 8:21 p.m. following a neighbor’s complaint. The officer counseling the college-aged residents on being good neighbors.

Crash: Police and medics responded to Main St. and Michigan Ave. at 8:43 p.m. for a two-vehicle with road blockage. One patient, an eight-year-old male, reportedly suffered whiplash.

Drunk: Police responded to Associate Bank, 1325 Church St., when someone reported an intoxicated man, age 25, causing a disturbance at 9:57 p.m.

Roof guy returns: Police were called back to Aspirus Stevens Point at 10:18 p.m. when a caller reported a 32-year-old man returned to trespass on the roof of the hospital. No further details were released.

Ding-dong ditch: A 24-year-old woman called police to the 300 block of West Cornell Ave. at 10:18 p.m. to report someone had been “playing ding-dong ditch all night” at her front door.

Oct. 21

Drunk: Police were called to check on an intoxicated man behind Icon Bar, 956 Main St., at 2:26 a.m. The man found a ride home.

Assault: Police responded to the 3700 block of Doolittle Dr. at 5:25 a.m. when a woman reported she’d been assaulted by her husband.

Oops: A 32-year-old man was issued a verbal warning for running a stop sign at Stanley St. and Clayton Ave. at 7:32 a.m.

Busted: Police responded to Walgreens, 3301 Church St., at 9:47 a.m. when an employee reported that a motorist was refusing to leave the drive-thru. After running his plates, police learned the man had an active warrant in another county and took him into custody.

Threats: Police were called to the 400 block of West St. North at 10:01 a.m. when a woman reported she was being threatened by the father of her child via text.

Pusher: A 44-year-old woman called police to the 400 block of West Wilson Ave. at 10:05 a.m. to report another woman, age 45, had “pushed her way” into the home. No further details were released.

Party: Police were called to the 1700 block of Briggs St. at 12:43 p.m. when a caller reported a party at the neighbor’s home and that motorists had been illegally parking on the street.

Shoplifter: Police were called to the Blue Bead Trading Company, 1043 Main St. when a caller reported a woman in the shop, 21, who had previously shoplifted in the store, had returned even though she wasn’t supposed to be there.

Crash: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at Heffron St. and Michigan Ave. at 3:24 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Speed racer: Police cited a 55-year-old man for speeding at Main St. and Illinois Ave. at 8:07 p.m.

Oh, please: Police were called to Icon nightclub, 956 Main St., at 8:30 p.m. when an employee reported that a 52-year-old male patron had “punched a Halloween decoration.”

Harassment: A 52-year-old woman reported to police at 10:58 p.m. that her ex-boyfriend had been harassing her by phone for six months and that she was concerned for her safety.

Party: Police were called to the 1800 block of Maria Dr. at 11:29 p.m. when a caller reported a loud party next door.

Homeless: A caller reported a homeless man sleeping in the vestibule of an apartment complex on the 700 block of Vincent Ct. at 11:50 p.m.

Oct. 22

Creeper: Police were called to the 700 block of Third St. at 1:55 a.m. when a 66-year-old woman reported that someone banged on her window, and then ran away.

So busted: Police conducted a welfare check on a 19-year-old man who was “passed out” behind Fall Line Outfitters, 904 Main St., at 2:15 a.m. The man was intoxicated and issued a citation for underage drinking, then found a safe ride home.

Threats: A 36-year-old woman reported to police that she’d been threatened on Prentice St. at 10:52 p.m.

Trespassers: Police were called to Black Bridge on the eastern end of Wisconsin St. at 12:20 p.m. when a caller reported several men trespassing in the area.

Shoplifter: Police were called to Target, 5300 Hwy. 10 East, at 1:27 p.m. when an employee reported catching a 35-year-old man shoplifting. No other information was released.

Fight: Several parents were contacted by police following a disturbance reported between several juveniles on the basketball court at Emerson Park, 1401 East Ave., at 4:10 p.m.
