Frederic “Fred” C. Copps, 78

Frederic “Fred” C. Copps, a prominent businessman, dedicated community leader, and avid golfer, died peacefully at his home in Naples, Fla., on April 16, 2024. He was 78.

Born in Stevens Point on Jan. 25, 1946, to Gordon and Marguerite “Peg” Copps, Copps graduated from Pacelli High School in 1964 and Regis College (University) in Denver in 1968. He served in the Army Reserves from 1968 to 1974.

Following college, Copps joined the family business, Copps Corporation, a grocery chain that served Wisconsin for 109 years. He held various leadership roles, including Executive Vice President of Wholesaling, and played a key role in the company’s growth and success.

Beyond his business acumen, Copps was a lifelong golf enthusiast, counting a round with Arnold Palmer and playing Augusta National among his most cherished memories. He was also a devoted Green Bay Packers fan, attending countless games at Lambeau Field with family and friends.

Copps was deeply committed to his community, serving on numerous boards and committees, including the United Way, Pacelli High School Foundation, and St. Stanislaus Parish Finance Committee. He was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni of Pacelli High School in 2000.

Known for his warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering faith, Copps prioritized his family above all else. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Penny, a loving father to his sons, Mark (Heather) and Brian, and a doting grandfather to Clara, Benjamin, and William.

Copps is survived by his wife, sons, grandchildren, sister Barbara Hubley, and brother Tom Copps. He was preceded in death by his son Eric, brothers Timothy and David, and his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on May 31, 2024, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Stevens Point, with visitation starting at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pacelli Catholic Schools or Operation Bootstrap in Stevens Point.
