Halfway through first term, county supervisor resigns

By Brandi Makuski

Lionel Weaver is stepping down from the Portage Co. Board of Supervisors.

Weaver, who represents the county’s 3rd District, made the announcement on his supervisory Facebook page on Tuesday. His resignation will become effective on April 19.

“I have a significant new professional opportunity that I couldn’t pass on,” Weaver wrote.

Weaver, a lawyer by trade, was supportive of keeping the health care center, additional well monitoring in Nelsonville, and greater attention on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

He’s been appointed to the Health Care Center, Judicial/General Government, Land and Water Conservation, and Solid Waste Management committees.

Weaver ran for the position against Kevin Flatoff, winning by a final vote tally of 178-116 in the April 2022 election.

It wasn’t immediately clear how Weaver’s position would be refilled.
