Fire crews respond downtown

By Brandi Makuski

Stevens Point firefighters on Wednesday responded with multiple vehicles to fire alarm at the downtown location of Associated Bank.

The call came at about 12:30 p.m.

According to Capt. Dennis Zvara, it was a “small fire” started by a contractor in the building.

“They were doing some welding, which set off the fire system,” Zvara said.

Sevens Point police also responded to close a portion of Main St. for less than a hour while the scene was cleared.

There were no injuries, Zvara said.
