By Patrick Lynn

The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County is holding its second annual youth job fair on May 3.

The YouthForce Job Fair and Career Showcase for teens will be held at the Berard Center, 941 Michigan Ave., in Stevens Point from 2:30-5 p.m.

The job fair will feature over 30 employers and groups who have already committed to presenting job and career opportunities to teens, including Sentry/SentryWorld, Festival Foods, Fleet Farm, Gamber-Johnson, McDonald’s, Rockman’s Catering, Roger’s Cinema, YMCA, Police & Fire Departments, and many more. The fair is free to all employers and teen attendees.

The job fair will include employer stations with chances to win prizes, receive educational and career materials, on-the-spot interviews for summer positions, fun activities, food and beverages, and even a virtual reality station to experience 26 different careers through “Transfr VR” virtual reality headsets.

Boys & Girls Club’s YouthForce workforce development initiative is made possible through grants from Taco Bell, US Ventures, Associated Bank, Best Buy, and a partnership grant with Mid-State Technical College and WI Department of Workforce Development.

YouthForce programming is offered for all age groups served by the Boys & Girls Club. Career exploration activities are offered to younger children, a Junior Staff program provides jobs for teens ages 14+, mentoring, coaching, and job placement services are offered to high school students, plus professional development opportunities are offered to college students who work at the Boys & Girls Club.

“Our YouthForce program is like a job center for youth and teens. Employers are very excited about our Boys & Girls Club working with youth and teens to ensure they are as prepared as possible to enter the workforce upon graduation from high school,” said Kevin Quevillon, the Club’s CEO.
