Metro Wire Staff

The United Way of Portage County kicked off its 2022 campaign Thursday.

This year’s campaign is focused on education, health, and financial stability, the three United Way “building blocks” that form the foundation for a good life, according to a news release from the organization.

The event was a continuation of the CREATE Portage County Levitt Amp Series featuring Malamania, a vintage Afro-Latin musical group. During the concert, the United Way highlighted its 2022 co-chair team: Ben Nusz and Cindy Weber representing education, Deb Furgason and Fred Eichmiller representing health, and Kim Angell and Craig Aittama representing financial stability.

Ben Nusz served as emcee for the event. He and his wife, Chamomile, taught the crowd a “United Way Dance” that will be featured on all of the organization’s social media platforms. A number of spectators took home T-shirts, and the United Way collected a “significant amount of school supplies” for Project Fresh Start.

According to the United Way of Portage County:

Results from early pacesetter campaigns include Great Lakes Educational Loan Services at $11,212; Wysocki Family of Companies came in at $31,625 with their employee campaign up over 8 percent from last year; the Delta Dental of Wisconsin campaign hit $327,734 with over 86 percent participation, and Northwinds Technology Solutions came in at $65,171, nearly 50 percent up over the previous year.

The United Way of Portage County has already surpassed the 20 percent mark of this year’s community goal of $3.125 million.

The 2022 Campaign will take place throughout Portage County at approximately 170 worksites, via direct mail, and contributions made online at www.unitedwaypoco.org. Donors of $52 or more to the 2022 United Way campaign will receive a GIVE & GET UNITED Coupon Book with local discounts. Eligible donors of $52 or more are also automatically entered into the LIVE UNITED – GIVE UNITED Sweepstakes for a chance to win their choice of one of three new, all-wheel-drive SUV vehicles, or $20,000, donated by Stevens Point Auto Center, in addition to nine other prizes valued at $1,000 or more.
