Toastmasters to celebrate 70th anniversary

Stevens Point Toastmasters has reached its 70th year.

To celebrate, the group has planned a dinner at 5:30 PM on Thur., March 1 at the Stevens Point Country Club, 1628 Country Club Dr.

Guests speaker for the event will be Dave Cotteleer, vice president and managing director of U.S. sales markets for Harley-Davidson, Inc.

The dinner is open to the public. Registration is required at www.ploverbiz.org/events or by contacting Ken McKenzie at (715) 345-5258. Seating is limited and anyone interested should register early.

The charter banquet of the club was held on April 17, 1948 at the Hotel Whiting, according to Club President Jeff Ebel.

“For over 70 years, the Stevens Point Toastmasters Club has provided a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to overcome their fear of public speaking and sharpen their presentation skills,” Ebel added.

Toastmasters International helps people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators and leaders, he said.

The Stevens Point Toastmasters Club meets at 7 PM on the first and third Thursdays of each month at the AIG Building, 3300 Business Park Dr. in Stevens Point.
