Portage Co. Rotary Club to host April 14 cribbage tournament

By Patrick Lynn

STEVENS POINT — An afternoon of cribbage and community spirit is planned for April’s cribbage tournament held at O’so in Plover.

The Greater Portage County Rotary Club will host its annual spring cribbage tournament on Sunday, April 14, from noon to 4 p.m. at O’so Brewing Company in Plover. Proceeds from the event will support a solar power project for the Bon Makah Orphanage and Resource Center in Cameroon, Africa.

“Our spring tournament celebrates cribbage, local community, and global connection by bringing together players of all skill levels,” said Dave Rosenthal, Rotary member and tournament co-coordinator.

The tournament, designed for up to 40 players, will feature one-on-one cribbage games with prizes of $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place, and $25 for 3rd place.

To register, send a $25 fee per player via Venmo to @RTRY-RCGPC with “CRIBBAGE” in the memo.

“But it’s not just about the card playing,” said Rotarian and tournament co-coordinator Rob Manzke, adding that the proceeds will benefit a solar power project for the orphanage, providing a reliable power supply for refrigeration and cooking.

The event will include Amore pizza, and basket and 50/50 raffles. Friends and family are encouraged to attend, cheer on the players, and enjoy the O’so atmosphere and beer.

“Whether you’re a seasoned cribbage player or a beginner eager to learn, this event promises something for everyone, all while supporting a great cause,” Rosenthal said.

The Greater Portage County Rotary Club is a community service organization dedicated to making a difference locally and globally. Through events and initiatives, the club promotes peace, fights disease, provides clean water, supports education, and grows local economies. New members are always welcome.
