Photo of the Day: The perfect day for chili

Metro Wire Staff

While temps outside plunged below zero, city employees on Friday were toasty warm during the 23rd annual City Hall Chili Contest.

Various city staffers brought in their respective crock pots filled with their best recipes of chili, goulash and other spicy, slow-roasted meats for an open-call, blind taste-testing among those who work for the city. According to Mayor Mike Wiza, each person donates $5 to help offset costs of disposable tableware and small trophies purchased for the event.

Dishes were ranked by private vote, with the trophies awarded to the top three winners.

The winning recipe was from parks dept. employee Scott Halvorsen; second place was awarded to Kari Jozwiak from municipal court; and Lance Musack from the public works dept. took third.

Wiza said the contest was a good morale booster for staff, and encouraged camaraderie.
