City to begin southside road projects on Monday

Metro Wire Staff

The city is set to kick off a southside street improvement on Monday.

The 2024 street improvement project is expected to be finished in late October. The city’s engineering department said the project will focus on Prairie St., stretching from Francis St. to the northern termini, and Francis St., extending from Water St. to the western termini.

The initial phase of the project will involve the removal of pavements, commencing on April 29, in preparation for underground utility work. While efforts will be made to maintain local traffic access to the greatest extent possible, there may be periods where access is not feasible.

Upon the completion of underground utility installations, the affected corridors will reopen to traffic on gravel surfaces until the final paving is completed.

The timeline for this project is contingent upon the availability of crews, weather conditions, and field conditions.
