Peter Wrycza, 84

Peter Wrycza, of Stevens Point, passed away at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at the age of 84.

Peter was born August 8, 1938 to Peter and Stella (née Wanta) Wrycza of Portage County. He attended area schools and graduated from Rosholt High School in 1956.

After high school, he bravely joined the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served from August 1956 to August 1958 where he was stationed at Camp Pendelton, Oceanside, Cali., near San Diego.

Following his honorable discharge, he married the love of his life, Dolores Wierzba, on May 28, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Polonia. In 1961, he began working for Consolidated Papers in Stevens Point. In 2000 he retired from his position as a supervisor for the boilers, dedicating over 39 years to the company.

Peter was an active man and a hard worker; both at his job and at home. While working full time, he put his handyman skills to work and built a home for himself, Dolores, and their two daughters. He did so well, that he did this a second time years down the road. Once his girls went out on their own, he helped them build homes as well.

In his down time, he loved to be outside. He enjoyed long walks along the road picking blackberries, cutting his grass on his John Deere lawn mower, cutting firewood with his Stihl chain saw, hunting and fishing. Every year, Peter and Dolores took an annual fishing trip to Sioux Lookout in Canada; a tradition they held for over 20 years.

Peter was also known for his “Joke of the Day” with his coworkers, who all looked forward to a daily laugh with Peter and his jokes. Perhaps he gathered his daily jokes when he sat down to watch the Three Stooges, one of his favorite TV shows.

Peter is lovingly survived by his wife, Dolores; daughters, Danielle Wrycza and Jeanine (Charlie Sikorski) Wrycza; a brother, Jim (Kathy) Wrycza; sisters-in-law, Delphine Wrycza and Pat Wyrcza; and a brother-in-law, Jerome Wierzba. He is further survived by his nieces and nephews, Dolores’ brothers and sisters, extended family, and friends.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert and Roger Wrycza; sisters, Gladys Drewa, Geraldine Wierzba, Roseleen Pochinski, and Cecilia Sanders; and brothers-in-law, Harry Drewa, Bob Pochinski, and Harold Sanders.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Sylvan Crossings staff of caretakers, especially Lori, and Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital’s ICU department, especially Amy, for dedicating their attention to the care of Peter. Their caring and compassion were greatly appreciated by his family.
