Letter: We need school board members with education background

To the Editor-

On April 5 I will be voting for Dennis Raabe to be elected to the board of the Stevens Point Area Public School District.

I am a 32-year resident of Stevens Point. My children attended Stevens Point public schools and I hope someday my grandchildren will as well. I would hope they could receive the same quality of education as the generation before. Unfortunately, I am concerned that this outcome may be in doubt.

I am a retired physician who witnessed the critical importance of experience and expertise on a daily basis. Similarly, we need local school board members who have demonstrated expertise in the field of public school education. Dennis Raabe has achieved that expertise through over four decades of experience as a teacher, principal, and superintendent.

In wishing to serve on the school board, Dennis has no goals other than to support the important role of public schools in the education of our population. He has no agenda other than to keep the best interest of our children at heart.

I have known Dennis on a personal level for most of my years in Stevens Point. I have witnessed him interacting with people in many different settings and situations. He is unfailingly and uniformly kind and considerate, treating people from all walks of life with dignity and respect.

I am proud to support Dennis Rabbe and ask you to join me in voting for him on April 5.
