Lawrence J. Strong, 93

Lawrence J. Strong, age 93, of Stevens Point, passed away early Sunday morning, February 25, 2024.

Lawrence (Larry or Lor) was born on May 16, 1930, in Stevens Point. He attended Saint Peter’s Elementary and Emerson High School. Larry served his country in the Korean War as a proficient combat sniper/sharpshooter. Following his service in the U.S. Army, he was employed at Point Sporting Goods for several years.

His first marriage to Bernadine Wojcik occurred on September 12, 1959. She later passed away February 27, 1997. Larry then met another Bernadine through mutual friends in 2001 and were later married on April 6, 2022. Larry and Bernadine (he affectionately called “Bernie”) shared 22 years of a deep love and partnership that was very special.

Larry was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, local bowling league, and archery club. Larry was very artistic and enjoyed painting. He loved visiting and cuddling with his furry grand-dogs. He was an avid and extremely successful hunter and fisherman from early childhood and continued his love of animals and the outdoors up until just under a year before his passing. He and Bernie enjoyed an all-day popper fishing outing to “their secret spots” throughout their marriage. They also enjoyed gardening, yardwork, polka dancing, playing bingo, and attending church picnics and outings.

Larry will be dearly missed by his wife Bernadine (Ostrowski/Soik) and step-daughter Bonnie Soik (Scott Hoeft), brother Richard Strong, sister Corrine Montgomery, nieces and nephews, and many, many close and special friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents Harold and Selma (née Yach) Strong and in-laws.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Larry will be held on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 7379 Church Street Custer. Rev. Mark Miller will officiate.

Visitation on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. Traditional burial with full military honors will take place at Guardian Angel Cemetery.
