Guns N’ Hoses donates to Ageless Aviation

Metro Wire Staff

Guns N’ Hoses softball action is returning to Portage Co. in September, but while in the planning phases, the planning committee took a break on Thursday to present a check.

The group, composed of representatives from local veteran services organizations, the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, police departments in Stevens Point and Plover, and the Stevens Point Fire Department, are back in fundraising gear for the 2023 game, scheduled for Sept. 10 at Zenoff Park.

On June 1, the group gathered to present a check for $5,000 to Ageless Aviation Dream Flight, a group that offers veterans a free flight in the cockpit of a Boeing Stearman, the airplane used to train many military aviators in the late 1930s and ’40s.

The group’s purpose is to raise funds for local nonprofits that support Portage Co. military veterans.

Since its local inception in 2014, Guns N’ Hoses has brought in over $150,000 for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight, the Portage Co. Veterans Emergency Services Fund, and other local veteran causes since 2014.

Donations for Guns N’ Hoses can be made anytime at the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, 1500 Strongs Ave., the Stevens Point Police Department, 933 Michigan Ave., the Plover Police Department, 2420 Post Rd., or the Stevens Point Fire Department, 1701 Franklin St.

Donations can also be made to: Guns N’ Hoses Fund, c/o Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, 2801 Hoover Rd., Stevens Point, Wis., 54481.
