He will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Gordon was born April 17, 1931, to the late Adolph and Lenora (née Pohl) Lutz on the family farm in Stockton, Wis.

As a boy, he worked the farm and attended technical school for training as a mechanic. Gordon was widely known as an honest and reliable auto repairman his whole life through. In 1982, he proudly founded Gordy’s Auto Service and Towing, realizing his lifelong dream.

Gordon served his country during the Korean War as a mechanic in the bridge builders brigade. He narrowly escaped a grenade attack on base near the vehicles. His company discovered a munitions dump at the base of a bridge and immediately evacuated the area.

He married Marjorie Mozuch on July 11, 1961. Together, they had five children: one daughter, Terry, and two sets of twin sons, Tim and Tom, and Randy and Steven. His family meant the world to him.

In his younger years, Gordy and his cohorts built a “crazy car” for the Stevens Point centennial parade. He delighted in fixing things of any sort, and helped construct his home on Hickory Street with builder Henry Knoll after the second set of twins was born.

He enjoyed waterskiing as a young man despite an inability to swim. Gordon saw to it each of his children learned the sport as well. He loved a good road trip and spent many summers camping at Madeline Lake in Woodruff with his family. Fishing, boating, bird watching, and sitting by the fire eating peanuts with a Point beer, just one, were among his favorite activities.

When not at the camper, Gordy was a prolific gardener and was especially proud of his raspberries and tomatoes. He loved traveling with Marge, and a house filled with kids and family. Strawberry ice cream was a favorite, had a fondness for pie (French vanilla for that), and never met a home-baked cookie he didn’t like. His perseverance is legendary, even in the days shortly before his death.

Survivors include daughter Terry Lutz of Wauwatosa, Wis., son Tim Lutz (Lee Fuerst), Menomonie, Wis., son Tom (Mary) Lutz of Junction City, son Randy (Laurie) Lutz of Amherst Junction, grandchildren Kimberly (Dan) Hintz, Kelly (Ryan) Roettger, Carl Peterson, Krystal Richardson, Kaci Richardson, Adam (Jessica) Helminiak, great grandchildren Ellie Roettger, Sailor and Blair Helminiak, and brother Ronald Lutz.

Gordon was preceded in death by his wife Marge, son Steven, sister Donna (Lutz) Hansen, brother Lorin, and his parents
