David Korpal, 82

David Korpal, of Plover, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on January 10, 2023, at the age of 82.

Dave was born on October 24, 1940, to Edward and Esther Korpal in Milwaukee. He grew up in the area and attended local schools, graduating from Milwaukee’s Pulaski High School in 1958.

Following high school, he moved to Central Wisconsin. Dave married his wife, Cathy Sackmann, on May 8, 1982, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stevens Point. Dave worked at Consolidated Whiting Mill in the coating room for 20 years before retiring.

Although Dave may have been a slight perfectionist with a stubborn, but endearing side, these traits also displayed his kindness and creativity; whether it was preparing delicious meals in the kitchen or showcasing his expert-level woodworking creations.

He also had a special affinity for potato pancakes, county fairs, and polkas. In his quieter moments, Dave enjoyed keeping his mind sharp with Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Dave was a devoted grandfather whose grandkids always brightened his day.

David is survived by his wife, Cathy; his three children, Matt (Julie) Korpal, Dennis (Stephany) Korpal, and Andrea (Pat) Arts; nine grandchildren, Calvin, Leo, Lucy, Cody, Daniel, David, Rachel, Jessica, and America; and three great-grandchildren, Carter, Gracie, and Grady. He is further survived by two brothers, Chester (Barb) and Tommy Korpal.

David is preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Richard Sackmann.

A service to honor David’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley St. in Stevens Point. David’s brother-in-law, Todd Sackmann, will officiate the service. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
