Carole A. Clure, 81

Carole A. Clure, of Stevens Point, passed away on July 24, 2023, at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital, at the age of 81.

Memorial services will be held to honor Carole’s memory at 11:30 am. on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley St., Stevens Point. The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday morning at the funeral home at 10 a.m. until the time of service. Deacon Vern Linzmeier will officiate. Feel free to wear brightly colored clothing to celebrate Carole’s bright light.

Carole was born on May 12, 1942, in Rhinelander, Wis., to the late James and Marie (née Chermak) McRae. She grew up in the area and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1960. Following high school, Carole attended UW-Stevens Point for a year and then returned to Rhinelander to start her family. In 1974, she moved back to Stevens Point and was a hardworking waitress at North Point Restaurant. A few years later, in 1979, she began working for Sentry Insurance as a policy rater until her retirement on July 1, 2013. While working full time at Sentry, she displayed her hardworking attitude yet again as she also worked for Target and County Market.

Carole will be lovingly remembered for her quick wit and use of sarcasm. For more than 40 years, she held the title of “Matriarch of the Thought Police.” When she wasn’t showering her loved ones with sharp comebacks, she enjoyed reading, knitting, making holiday dinners, and participating in the world’s largest trivia contest in Stevens Point.

Carole also enjoyed musical theater; watching and performing. She was a member of Sentry Singers for several years and participated in various community theater productions. Above all, Carole treasured her family, from spending time with her grandchildren to traveling with her siblings, her favorite trip being the trip out West.

Carole is survived by her children, James Clure, Gary Clure, Anne (Sean) Van Lysal, and Sara (Troy) Stelzer; her grandchildren, Jessica (Brett) Bayless, Todd Pitsch, Hannah (Kevin) Siemen, Andrew (Fiancé Isasia Sylvester) Van Lysal, and Patrick Stelzer; and her great grandchild, Alaina Pitsch. She is further survived by her siblings, Joanne Reimer, Linda (Dan) Sonsthagan, Mary (Alan) Schwoegler, Jean O’Donnell, and James (Sarah) McRae; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, Chuck Reimer; and Jean’s life partner, Jeff Harvey.

For those wishing to express their sympathy, the family kindly suggests memorials may be designated in Carole’s name to Friends of 90FM.

The family would like to extend a special Thank you to the Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital ICU staff for the exceptional care provided to Carole and her family.
