Betty Rae Cartwright, 89

Betty Rae Cartwright, 89, of Weyauwega, passed away peacefully late Tuesday evening, January 23, 2024, at Point Manor Assisted Living in Stevens Point with her loving daughter at her side.

Betty was born February 17, 1934 in the Town of Richmond, Wis. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Caroline “Lena” (née Sommers) Gueths.

A simple farm girl that literally explored the world. During her early married life, she traveled to Germany, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Hawaii, Guam and Okinawa, Japan along with most of the United States and eventually settling down in Wisconsin. She was a lover of the ocean and lighthouses. Barns and trees were always enjoyable, probably due to the fact that it reminded her of home and her parents from many years ago.

She was a caring, religious soul who would strike up a conversation with anyone. Her life ended as it started, still a simple, young farm girl from Shawano. The last and youngest of the original Gueths family.

Survivors include her husband Samuel, her children Michael (Patty) Derks of Appleton, Jay (Linda Ladwig) Derks of Madison, Paige Lucas of Murrieta, Cali., Pleasance (Aron) Robbert of West Bloomfield, and Patience (Matthew Breitenstein) Dunn of Stevens Point; six grandchildren: Savanah, Mathilda, Georgia, Thomas, Ebon and Bailey; her sister daughter in law Beth (Larry) Somers; son-in-law Todd Cartwright; sister-in-law Mary Gueths; and her first husband John Derks.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a special son-in-law Thomas Lucas, her siblings, Elfrieda Buettner, Reinhold Gueths, Lawrence Gueths, Nora Engel, Augusts “Butch” Gueths, Carl “Chubby” Gueths, Alfred Gueths, Fred Gueths and Chester Gueths.

As per Betty’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. The Pisarski Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.pisarskifuneralhome.com.
