Thomas Jones, 66

Thomas Jones, age 66, of Middleton, Wis., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 21, 2024.

Tom was born July 6, 1957, in Brooklyn, NY, and spent his early years in Andover, NJ before moving with his family to Stevens Point, Wis. in 1971. Tom graduated from Stevens Point Area Senior High School in 1975 and UW Stevens Point in 1981.

While at UW-Stevens Point, Tom was actively involved in the student TV group as a camera operator, producer/director and production manager. Additionally, Tom enjoyed his time being involved with WWSP-90FM radio station where he had roles as announcer, newscaster and business manager.

As a student and for many years after, Tom especially enjoyed his time being involved in WWSP’s annual Trivia Contest, where he used his IT skills to design and implement the score-keeping system.

Post college, Tom worked as a camera operator for a Wausau TV news station and overnight disc jockey at a Waupaca radio station, along with part time computer programming jobs.

Tom switched careers to IT as a programmer at School Administrative Software in Stevens Point for two years. In 1987, he moved to Madison and began working for the Wisconsin Department of Health and Human Services as a Management Information Specialist until his retirement.

While living in Madison, he met his soulmate and future wife Stevie. They soon moved to Middleton, where Tom developed Stevie’s love for cats. Although Tom and Stevie’s time together was short, their happiness was obvious to all who knew them.

Tom was quiet by nature, but enjoyed time spent with family, friends and visiting cousins on the East Coast from his childhood and adolescent years, laughing and playing practical jokes. He enjoyed science fiction, history and listening to a variety of music from Frank Zappa to rock band Renaissance.

He is survived by his sister Cathy (Jim Ferk) of Stevens Point; brother David (Laura) of Trevor, Wis., nephews Kyle (fiancée Brittney Hodgson), Trent, niece Abigail, and many cousins.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Gerry, and his wife Stevie.
