YMCA, ADRC partner to host senior prom dinner and dance

By Patrick Lynn

Portage County seniors who missed their prom — or want to relive happy memories — are invited to the first Senior Prom dinner and dance hosted by the Stevens Point Area YMCA and the ADRC of Portage County.

The event, in celebration of Older Americans Month, will take place on Friday, May 3, from 5-8 p.m. at the Stevens Point Area YMCA, at 1000 Division St.

Registration is required for this event. DJ Buffet will provide tunes from various eras, and the dress code is “prom casual,” encouraging attendees to come as they are, whether in tuxedos or blue jeans. Dance partners are not required; attendees can come alone or with a group.

The dinner, provided by the ADRC of Portage County Nutrition program, will include Chicken Cordon Bleu, garlic mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, a dinner roll, spinach salad with strawberries and poppyseed dressing, and lemon strawberry poke cake.

Those aged 60 and older can enjoy the meal on a donation basis, with a suggested donation of $5. Participants not eligible for the donation basis are required to pay $12 per meal. Exact change is requested for those joining for dinner.

Registration and more information can be obtained by contacting Lisa at 715-347-4856 or emailing [email protected]. Registration deadline for dinner and dance is April 24, and for the dance only, it is May 1.
