Wisconsin Valley Union girls hockey hosts DC Everest co-op on Thursday evening

By Craig Marx

As coverage of the Portage County area sports world diversifies for the sports desk of the Point/Plover Metro Wire, Thursday night’s featured game of the evening sees a Central Wisconsin matchup of the Wisconsin Valley Union girls hockey team against the co-op team of DC Everest.

While entering Thursday night’s contest 0-3 on the season, the Wisconsin Valley Union team has a chance to rebound against Central Wisconsin after a series of cancellations this past weekend due to the inclement weather. WVU last played over a week and a half ago, in a 3-2 loss to the Badger Lightning in Baraboo on Dec. 4th.

The ladies will travel to Arrowhead this weekend, taking on one of the largest enrollment schools in the state before returning home against Fox Cities on Dec. 21 before the holiday break.

Leah Pavelski leads the WVU team in goals scored with two netted on the season, both in the one-goal loss to the Badger Lightning.

WVU, playing in the Eastern Shores Conference, faces a Central Wisconsin team that competes independently and is currently 5-0-0 this 2021-2022 season. Thursday’s game will see the puck drop at center ice of the Ice Hawk Arena in Stevens Point, beginning at 7 p.m.

Upcoming Featured Games of the Night:

SPASH girls basketball plays host to Merrill on Friday night at 7:15 p.m. and will be featured as part of the in-depth coverage provided by the Metro Wire.

After speaking with the Panthers head boys basketball coach, Jonathan Krull, this past week, next Tuesday’s home matchup against Wisconsin Valley Conference rival DC Everest (Dec. 21 at 7:15 p.m.) will prove to be an exceptional highlight.
