VFW, Burger King, and Plover all partner for inaugural ‘Day of Service’

Plover VFW Post 10262 and the Village of Plover joined forces Saturday to clean up Hoover Ave. during the inaugural Veterans of Foreign Wars Day of Service.

Calling themselves the “VFW Cleanup Brigade,” the group was divided into teams of two or three, and “deployed” to various sites along Hoover Ave. to collect trash and litter between Hwy. B and Hwy. HH. Village staffers then collected the filled trash bags and transported them to a local disposal site.

Following the cleanup, VFW members Ken Anderson and Don Mugridge presented and raised a new 5’ x 9’ American Flag at the Northside Burger King on Division St. in Stevens Point.

Incoming post commander and event organizer Norb Strasser called the event a “win-win,” based on the “positive feedback” from VFW members and the community.

Area businesses that are in need of a replacement flag, or assistance with installation, can contact Plover VFW at (715) 341-8414.

The National VFW Day of Service campaign, launched on May 7, partners with community organizations and civic groups. The service-focused initiative is led by veterans with the aim of improving the well-being of local communities.
