UPDATE: Massive Facebook, Instagram outage fixed

Metro Wire Staff

Facebook and Instagram users reported widespread issues on Tuesday, with many reporting being booted from the social media platforms and unable to log back in.

Meta’s social media platforms were down Tuesday morning for over an hour, with Instagram, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Threads pulling up “failure to load” error pages.

DownDetector reported a peak Facebook outage that affected 461,000 users at 10:37 a.m. Instagram also had over 70,000 reported outages at the peak.

“Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services,” said Andy Stone, a Meta representative. “We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

The platforms appear to be fully functional now, although some people are still reporting issues with logging back in due to the two-factor login protocol.

This service disruption follows a major outage in 2021, lasting over six hours, affecting Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. At that time, Facebook, now Meta, attributed the outage to “configuration changes on backbone routers.”

It’s not immediately clear was caused the outage.
