The Stevens Point Salvation Army has kicked off its annual bell-ringing campaign.

The nonprofit organization provided 20,000 meals and 8,000 lodging nights at the Hope Center, 1600 Briggs St., in 2020. The Red Kettle Campaign is the Salvation Army’s main fundraiser throughout the year.

According to Trisha Steinhorst, media and fundraising manager for the Stevens Point Salvation Army, the organization now offers the option to pay $5 electronically by tapping a debit card on a console at each of the kettles.

“A lot of people don’t carry cash anymore, and this way, they can still donate,” she said.

The organization is also seeking volunteers for this year’s event. For each two-hour shift a person signs up to ring a bell, they are entered into a drawing for a $200 gift card at Lee Ayers Jewelers.
