Senator Patrick Testin of Stevens Point today announced he has accepted two area high school students to participate in the Senate Scholar program.

Ava Butt from Wautoma High School and SPASH student Mariya Koval will join a handful of high school juniors and seniors from across Wisconsin to participate in a week-long, intensive program at the State Capitol this winter.

Students learn the different facets of government and the legislative process and meet with legislative support agencies, lawmakers’ staff, the governor’s staff, a Supreme Court Justice, the media, lobbyists, and UW-Madison faculty members.

The students then put their knowledge into action by holding a state senate floor session under the direction of the Senate Sergeant at Arms’ office and a mock hearing on a bill the students craft together.
