SPFD association endorses Olson for County Exec

By Patrick Lynn

The Stevens Point firefighter union has announced its endorsement for Portage County Executive.

The Stevens Point chapter of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 484, announced this week it was endorsing Eric Olson for County Executive.

Olson is currently employed at UW-Stevens Point and is a newcomer to local government.

“It is important this spring to vote for experience, strong leadership, and someone who will work hard to ensure integrity is held to the highest standard, which Eric holds in high regard,” a news release from the Local 484 reads in part. “Stevens Point firefighters are citizens of Portage County and share with you the need for the county to flourish and grow. Eric is the candidate that will provide us that growth and opportunity.”

The Local 484 said Olson will work “tirelessly” to advance sustainability and community resilience and that he would “serve all Portage County residents with transparency and civic engagement. Eric will invest his time and effort in learning the intricacies of the public safety system to ensure the best emergency care for all Portage County citizens.”

It’s the second endorsement the union has announced in the past week. Previously, the Local 484 endorsed Louis Molepske, Jr., for circuit court judge.

The spring election is on April 5.
