SPASH baseball defeats Merrill in extra innings

The SPASH baseball team traveled to Merrill on Thursday for a WVC matchup and tallied the win 8-1 in 11 innings, bringing their conference record to 9-1 and 16-3 overall.

The game started off as a low scoring affair with being tied 1-1 going into the 11th inning but SPASH took control and racked up seven runs in the 11th inning to take the lead and hold off Merrill in the bottom of the inning to win. Justin Morton, Vinnie Fonti, Brett Ehr, and Austin Beyer all contributed RBIs in the inning.

Beyer led SPASH in hits going 3-for-5, both Morton and Jack Kelly had doubled in the game. Ehr led in RBIs with three.

Logan Schulfer was the starting pitcher going five innings with seven strikeouts, one hit, and one run. Dylan Davis was the winning pitcher going three innings holding Merrill to no hits and no runs. Reese Gaber and Dylan Trigg pitched out of the bullpen to hold off the Blue Jays.

SPASH will travel to Watertown this Saturday for a doubleheader with the first game starting at 11 a.m.
