Skyward recently awarded deserving students at the UW-Stevens Point and Mid-State Technical College for the 2023-24 academic year.

According to a news release from the school administration software provider, which is committed to helping K-12 leaders spend less time on tasks and more time with students, the scholarships represent Skyward’s ongoing commitment to education and long-standing tradition of supporting area academics and students.

Six UWSP students received scholarships from Skyward, making a total of 71 recipients to date. The recipients are Caleb Hernke, Jacob Kozelek, Julia Kumm, Gavin Ridge, Nathan Schultz, and Sophia Weeden. All six students are pursuing majors in computer information systems or programming-related disciplines.

“The Department of Computing and New Media Technologies is grateful to Skyward for their continued support for our students,” said Tomi Heimonen, department chair. “This scholarship provides students both with financial support and opportunities to familiarize themselves with their future careers in computing from day one. We are looking forward to continued collaboration with Skyward as future cohorts of scholars are accepted into the program.”

Recipients from Mid-State include Candice Kohlbeck of Marshfield and Chong Xiong of Wisconsin Rapids. Both students are pursuing degrees in IT software development. Since 2002, Skyward has supported students enrolled at Mid-State, with 62 scholarships awarded to date.

“Mid-State Technical College Foundation believes partnerships with individuals and businesses, like Skyward, are the key to breaking down financial barriers for students,” said Nikki Dhein, foundation donor relations manager at Mid-State. “Skyward’s continued support of students helps ensure a qualified workforce right here in central Wisconsin.”

Skyward’s academic scholarships are funded through employee donations and company-matched contributions.

With approximately 50 percent of Skyward employees being UW-Stevens Point or Mid-State alums, Skyward is dedicated to supporting current students working towards related technology and computer science degrees.
