Sheriff’s Office to host combined classes for ATV, snowmobile safety

The Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office will offer a joint snowmobile and ATV/UTV safety class beginning Dec. 10.

Under state law, operators born on or after Jan 1, 1985, is required to hold a Snowmobile Safety Certificate; any operator born after Jan. 1, 1988, must hold a valid ATV Safety Certificate.

The sheriff’s office provides the official Department of Natural Resources training program, which included fundamentals on the safe and legal operation of snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles.

The course cost is $20.00 and will be collected at the first class. Classes are held 4-7 p.m. on Dec. 10, 11, 17, and 18 in the training room of the Portage Co. Law Enforcement Center, 1500 Strongs Ave.

Space is limited and the class is expected to fill quickly. Anyone interested can register at https://gowild.wi.gov/.
