The Portage County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) class on April 30.

The class is taught by sheriff’s deputies who are certified firearms instructors through the Department of Justice, and the class was developed specifically for a CCW permit application. The cost of the class is $50 per student.

The class will be held Saturday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to noon in rooms 1 and 2 of the Portage Co. Annex, 1462 Strongs Ave.

The PCSO will also offer a Basic Handgun Course from 1-4 p.m. at the Portage County Law Enforcement Range, 3001 Willow Springs Dr., in the Town of Dewey. The course is available to those who attend the morning CCW class.

Topics for the class include shooting stance, grip, sight picture, loading, unloading, malfunctions, and firing. Students will need to bring a firearm and approximately 50 rounds of ammunition for their firearm.

Those taking both the CCW and Basic Handgun Course will be charged a total of $75 per student.
