Robert (Bob) Smith, 63

Robert (Bob) Smith passed away on February 9, 2024 at the age of 63.

He was born on November 8, 1960, to Timothy and Dorothy (née Funk) Smith in Waupaca, Wis. He attended local schools and moved to Stevens Point at age 17. He served in the Army Reserve.

He married Sharon Zorn. They had two sons, Michael and Benjamin.

His work career started as a chef at several restaurants including the old Holiday Inn, local country clubs, and Southpoint. He gave up cooking and went to work for a machine shop. After that, he went to potato farms, Wysocki, and Plover River Farms as an equipment repair person.

He was retired for six months when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. After long hospital stays, surgery, many tests and scans, and radiation, the doctors said they could not stop the gremlins in his brain.

He is survived by his sons Michael (Emma) and Benjamin Smith; grandsons Arthur and Duncan Smith; siblings Mary Kimmel; Jonathan Doppsmith; Marsha Haynes; Marj DeJongh; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Mike. They are fishing together again.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at his favorite restaurant, Southpoint, 3057 Church St., on March 3 from 2-5 p.m. to remember this hard-working, witty, caring helpful person who got cheated out of a retirement.
