Registration now open for Project Fresh Start school supply program

Metro WIre Staff

Family registration for Project Fresh Start is now open.

Families will need to register to receive school supplies for United Way to determine the amount of supplies needed.

School supplies will be delivered to each school and distributed to families through school staff members. Schools will be notified of which students registered to receive supplies. Supplies will either be waiting at the school for the students on the first day of classes or school staff members will work with families to schedule a time for pickup.

For those families who are not part of a specific school district, United Way will contact them directly regarding supply pickup.

Registration is open through Friday, July 30 for any 4K-12 student enrolled in a Portage County school. The link to online registration and printable registration forms can be found at www.volunteersrock.org/pfs.

To receive supplies, students must qualify for the federal free/reduced lunch program at their school.

More than 3,000 students in Portage County will be eligible to receive supplies through Project Fresh Start. Last year Project Fresh Start served more than 1,000 students in Portage County.

“Project Fresh Start is vital in making sure all students begin the school year ready to learn,” said Kelly Skeels, United Way of Portage County Community Services Coordinator. “We want to assure Project Fresh Start families that they will receive the needed school supplies to help their children succeed.”
