Portage Co. under winter storm warning with 8-12 inches expected

Metro Wire Staff

The National Weather Service in Green Bay has issued a winter storm warning for Portage Co. through 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3.

Heavy snow is expected throughout central Wisconsin with 8-12 inches of snow accumulating through Wednesday, with higher amounts in the northeastern part of the state.

Strong wind gusts of up to 45 miles an hour are also expected.

The strong winds and weight of the snow may cause down power lines and sporadic power outages, NWS said. The gusty winds can also bring down tree branches.

Motorists should also be aware of low visibility and are urged to slow down and allow for extra travel time. NWS is advising that area residents avoid travel if possible.
