Police & Sheriff Calls, April 6-8

April 6

Homeless: A caller reported three suspicious men, ages 43, 48 and 59, who were sleeping inside Maytag laundry on the 300 block of Division St. at 12:04 a.m. The men were taken to the warming shelter for the night.

Noise Complaint: Someone called police at 1:13 a.m. to report loud music from the 900 block of Main St. Police determined a bartender accidentally turned on external speakers.

Dirty Pool: A 61-year-old man called police at 3:37 a.m. to report three men, ages 18, 19 and 21, were fighting near Fourth and Illinois avenues. The men were reportedly fighting over a game of pool they’d played earlier that night.

Sneaky Employee: Police were called to Save-a-Lot on the 3000 block of Chuch St. at 2:13 p.m. after a caller there reported a 32-year-old employee was “helping herself” to snacks from the shelves while on break and after work.

Target Thief: Police arrested a 39-year-old woman for retail theft after she walked out of Target, 5300 Hwy 10 East, without paying for items in her cart at 3:26 p.m. The items taken were not listed in the police blotter.

Don’t Come Around Here No More: A 19-year-old man was arrested on a bail-jumping charge after coming to a residence on the 3300 block of Minnesota Ave. he had previously been ordered by a judge to avoid.

A Whole Mess of Trouble: Deputies arrested a 31-year-old man at 2:29 a.m. on charges of OWI, third offense, operating while suspected, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, and failure to keep his vehicle under control on I-39.

April 7

Was It The Moose? A 58-year-old woman reported to police that someone had broken glass on the front door of the Elk’s Lodge, 1132 Clark St., sometime after the lodge closed on April 6.

Yell Quieter: Police were called to the 700 block of John’s Dr. at 11:47 a.m. after a caller reported their neighbors were arguing “very loudly”.

Hit & Run: A 24-year-old woman was cited for hit and run of unattended vehicle following a crash on the 100 block of Division St. at 4:36 p.m.

After Hours at School: Police arrested a 42-year-old man who was inside MSTC, 1001 Centerpoint Dr., at 12:27 p.m. on a day when the college was closed. The man was charged with probation violation, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

April 8

Firearms or Aliens: A 33-year-old woman called police at 9:16 p.m. to report she heard a loud bang and saw a flash of light outside her home on the 3200 block of Delaney St.

Loud Music Just Gets You in Trouble: Police responded to a home on the 2000 block of Briggs St. at 9:25 p.m. after a caller reported loud bass music coming from the residence. Police cited the 22-year-old male tenant with a noise ordinance violation, and for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Drug Overdose: Deputies and Portage Co. Fire responded to a reported opioid overdose on the 100 block of Main St. in Rosholt at 4:24 a.m. The man’s condition was not immediately reported.
