Police respond to two-vehicle collision

Metro Wire Staff

Stevens Point police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Monday.

Officers were called to Hwy. 66/Stanley St. at the southbound ramp for I-39 at 7:26 p.m. One vehicle, an SUV, was on its side.

The scene was cleared at 7:49 p.m. It’s not clear what caused the accident or if any citations were issued, any arrests were made, or if anyone was injured, but the Stevens Point Fire Department confirmed it was not asked to dispatch an ambulance to the scene.

A call to SPPD via the Portage Co. Communications Center at 8:01 p.m. seeking details was not successful. A dispatcher relayed a message from on-duty officers that information would need to be obtained from Lt. Joe Johnson, the department’s public information officer, when Johnson returned to his office on Wednesday, July 5.

Emails sent Monday night seeking information from Johnson and Police Chief Bob Kussow were not immediately returned.
