Pacelli Softball shuts out Markesan for regional title

Pacelli opened the first inning on offense Thursday with three runs and didn’t let up for the remainder of the game to shut out Markesan 9-0 and secure the regional title.

Pitcher Haley Raflik earned the win in the circle pitching a complete game with no runs on two hits and seven strikeouts.

Madison Hintz started the scoring trend with a single in the first inning to bring Raflik across the plate. A Markesan error and fielders choice by Emma Van Order added an additional two on the board to close out the inning.

Raflik took advantage of a passed ball to score in the bottom of the second inning and brought in an RBI on a single in the fourth.

The fifth inning added two additional runs for the Cardinals off a triple by Karah Kluck for two RBIs. Pacelli closed out the sixth inning on a double from Hintz and a single from Sophie Schroeder to tally an additional two runs.

Hintz led the Cardinals in hitting going 3-for-4 from the plate. Kluck and Raflik had two hits during the game. Hintz and Tessa Shafranski lead in RBIs with two.

Pacelli will host Marathon on Tuesday at Spud Field for the sectional semifinals at 4:30 p.m.
