Portage Co. deputies say a 54-year-old woman is dead following an early morning crash in the Town of Sharon.

Deputies were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on County Highway J near Wilderness Dr. at 1:44 a.m. According to a news release from Sheriff Mike Lukas, the crash involved one man and two women.

The male driver, a 32-year-old from Rosholt, crossed the centerline while traveling north on County Hwy. J, then entered the west ditch and struck a driveway, Lukas said, where it came to rest on the passenger side.

The driver, and a 32-year-old female passenger, also from Rosholt, were taken to a local hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Another passenger, a 54-year-old woman from Amherst Junction, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation. The Portage County Technical Crash Investigation Team, Portage County Ambulance Service, Sharon EMS, and the Rosholt Fire Department all responded to the scene.

The crash forced County Hwy. J closed for about three hours, Lukas said.

The names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of families.
