Mental wellness speaker scheduled for Monday night

A mental wellness speaker will give a free presentation on Monday night in the Aspirus Business Office.

The Portage/Wood counties chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Suicide Prevention Mental Wellness Awareness Coalition are hosting Chad Taylor, MA, LPC, a counselor with Aspirus Behavioral Health.

Taylor will give a presentation on presentation on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a type of therapy that combines strategies of mindfulness, acceptance, and emotional regulation to foster positive change.

DBT was initially developed to help people with borderline personality disorder but has been successfully adapted to treat many mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, ADHD, and suicidal and other self-destructive behaviors.

The presentation will be 6-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28 in the Oak Room of Aspirus Business Office, 2501 Main St. in Stevens Point. Attendees should enter the doors from the east parking lot.
