Library tech to shut down temporarily

Metro Wire Staff

Some technology services at the Portage County Public Library will be unavailable later this month.

As part of a planned relocation of the South Central Library System in Madison, remote equipment used by all four branches of the Portage Co. library system will be disassembled for the move.

As a result, 54 public libraries in central Wisconsin will have limited technology services from June 28 to July 1.

Library branches will remain open for library programs and checkouts, but not all regular services will be available at the four locations, including:

  • Public computers
  • Public Wi-Fi
  • Self-checkout machines
  • Various databases

Customers must present a library card, and anyone picking up items for another person must present that person’s card to checkout, not their own.

Library users can still search the catalog and place holds from their own home or mobile network, but library staff will be unable to access individual accounts.

Full services should resume on July 3.

The Portage County Public Library has branch locations in Almond, Plover, Rosholt, and Stevens Point.
