Letter: Wiza’s work as mayor has been ‘outstanding’

To the Editor-

I moved to the Point area in 1974 and into Point proper in 1978. I lived in Stevens Point up until December of 2020 and now reside in Plover.

I’ve lived through quite a few mayors in Stevens Point over those years. As we approach the election on Tuesday, I feel that I have a certain devotion to this city I was proud to call home for many years. The current mayor, Mike Wiza, is running for re-election. I’ve known Mike for plenty of years, basically since he was in school. I knew him and his wife when their daughter was born. I’ve seen Mike grow and mature to one of the most dedicated people in this community.

His work as mayor has been outstanding. He saw the town through the pandemic and was behind many ideas in the community which make Point a better place. In each instance, he was careful about budgets. He took office and knew that we needed to stop neglecting road maintenance and instituted a regular rotation to keep the roads in decent repair.

He was instrumental in providing people and their dogs a dog park, which didn’t cost the taxpayers but was completed with donations.

Yes, he was also responsible for the “Creative Walk” and was with him the night, John Cleese signed the sign which hangs in his office. If Point wanted to have or needed a cheerleader, it would be Mike.

So many positive things have happened in Stevens Point since Mike became mayor. I encourage people to vote on Tuesday and to consider Mike as the single most sincere and common sense candidate you could possibly elect. And that is the most refreshing choice voters can have today. Good luck Mike.
