Letter: Thanks to the public, Salvation Army helped over 1,400 last year

Letter to the Editor-

As we close out 2018 and look forward to 2019, we want to thank all of the great businesses, foundations, organizations and individuals in Portage County who willing gave of their time and donations so we were able to serve those daily who come to our many programs seeking assistance for their basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter.

The Red Kettle Campaign was a great success once again in 2018 because of businesses who allowed us to have our red kettle stands outside their businesses, placed counter kettles inside their stores, sold paper kettles, sponsored kettle days and volunteered to ring the bell, even during challenging weather.

In 2018 we were able to provide over 26,000 meals, 15,000 nights of shelter, 120 Christmas food baskets, 400 children received Christmas gifts and over 1,400 families and individuals received emergency food baskets.

2019 will once again be faced with many challenges and requests, but through the generous support of our communities in Portage County, we will face those challenges and requests with confidence, knowing that for many will find hope through the services they receive.

Thank you residents of Portage County, you once again are a wonderful example to our great state of generosity and sacrifice for those in need.

God Bless,
