Hunters can consider donating venison

In 2022, over 900,000 Wisconsin residents received food assistance, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

The state’s Deer Donation Program, managed by the DNR, aims to alleviate some of the need by distributing ground venison to food pantries statewide.

Venison for these pantries is supplied by Wisconsin hunters. Since its inception in 2000, the program has received donations of 98,000 deer, resulting in a total of more than 3.9 million pounds of venison.

The program operates until the conclusion of deer hunting season. For those interested in contributing during the holiday season, got to the DNR’s Deer Donation Program webpage to learn how to participate in the initiative.
